MEET THE NEW SHERIFFS OF SOUTH CAROLINA



    Abbeville County :: Sheriff Ray Watson


  • SC Native, relocated from Greenwood to Abbeville County in 1995.

  • Prior to being elected as Sheriff of Abbeville County, held the rank of Captain with the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division.

  • Served with the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office for approximately 20 years.

  • Extensively trained in the areas of narcotics, uniform patrol and criminal investigations as well as the everyday activities involved in running a sheriff's office.

  • Sheriff Watson is married with 2 wonderful daughters.




    Chester County :: Sheriff Alex Underwood


  • Native of Chester County, parents Arthur and the late Lenora Underwood.

  • Graduate of the University of SC, Dean's list and President's list.

  • Over 25 years of law enforcement service - began as a deputy sheriff with Chester County in 1984 under Sheriff Orr.

  • Worked as an officer with the Department of Natural Resources and SLED.

  • Awards and Recognitions: Several awards for bravery, numerous merit awards, Service Award US Marshal Service DuPont National Survival Award, Board of Directors Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP).




    Colleton County :: Sheriff Andy Strickland


  • Native of Colleton County, attended Walterboro High School and USC Salkehatchie.

  • Began law enforcement career with the SC Highway Patrol and continued a decorated career of 13 years as a deputy sheriff for the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Natural Resources and the SC Highway Patrol.

  • Awards and Recognitions: Trooper of the Low Country and the Award of Valor from the SC Highway Patrol.

  • Sheriff Strickland is married with a beautiful daughter.




    Oconee County :: Sheriff Mike Crenshaw


  • Native of Oconee County, attended Westminster High School and Clemson University.

  • Graduate of the SC Criminal Justice Academy and the FBI National Academy.

  • Over 25 years in law enforcement, beginning with the Westminster Police Department in 1986.

  • Served as Westminster Police Department Chief of Police in 2012.

  • Sheriff Crenshaw is married with 2 lovely children, a son and a daughter.




    Pickens County :: Sheriff Rick Clark


  • Born in Liberty SC, attended Liberty High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. Earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration jointly from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina.

  • City Councilman, Liberty SC for 11 years.

  • Volunteer Fireman.

  • A Founding member and past Chairman of Mary's House, a domestic violence shelter in Pickens county.

  • Began law enforcement career at the Pickens County Sheriff Office in 1995.

  • Sergeant of Training/Accreditation Clemson University Police Department (2000-2008).

  • Director of Public Safety at Tri-County Technical College prior to being elected Sheriff November 2012.




    Saluda County :: Sheriff John C. Perry


  • Graduated from Saluda High School and began promptly working in the construction industry.

  • He was inspired however by his father, Calvin Perry, a long time law enforcement officer to pursue a career in law enforcement.

  • Began his law enforcement career in 1999 under former Sheriff Dudley Rushton.

  • Sheriff Perry has been married 26 years and has 2 sons.
